Sigurd Jorsalfar
Sigurd Jorsalfar - Sigurd, the Jerusalem driver!
King Sigurd I ruled Norway around 1100. It is the time of the crusades. Sigurd also went to Jerusalem with an army of knights. The aim was to recapture the holy places from the hands of the Muslims. Edvard Grieg composed the music for the play of the same name, two years before his “Peer Gynt”.
Two brothers, who initially rule together, fight for sole rule. A young noble lady named Borghild finally succeeds in reconciling the two brothers. They vow to work for the peace and well-being of their fellow human beings in their home country Norway in the future. The realization that only peace and reconciliation serve human coexistence is the quintessence of the stage work in the room.
