2014 The Moon Glistens is a new work for wind ensemble derived from Joni's choral work Autumn Reflections. The work is structured as a tone poem which incorporates six Japanese Haiku throughout, while offering vivid vignettes of the autumn landscapes and simplicity of 16th century Japan. Performers and audiences are guided through the imagery of each section of the work with a line-by-line break down of the poetry in the parts and score. The six poem structure focuses on nature and the cycle of one autumn day while incorporating a variety of chamber groupings within the wind ensemble. Players and conductors are given cross curriculum lesson plans, an in depth analysis of the work, and a detailed description of the compositional process with each score.
