Composer Bobrowitz in this very entertaining work finds a perfect way to make playing scales fun while painting a musical picture of the step-saving device of the title. Both acro and pizzicato techiniques are used here, along with some easy pointillistic figures. This "change of pace" piece is fun to play, fun to listen to, and has important educational value.
